INGREDIENTS: BERGAMOT
Roughly 4 metres high, bergamot is a shrub the trunk of which is straight and ramified. Its origin is unknown: it would result from the graft of lemon tree on bergamot pear tree. It is mostly cultivated in Calabria.
Its greyish bark is thin and spotted with essence glands. It has characteristics halfway between bitter orange tree and lemon tree: its leaves are oblong, with a winged petiole. The flowers are white and very odorous.
Bergamot blossoms from April to May and bears fruit in November. These latter mature between December and February: they are globular on pear-shaped, their peel is yellow, almost smooth, also covered with essence glands. GALBANUM
Galbanum has numerous medicinal purposes. It has been used in the treatment of skin conditions such as acne and inflammations; it aids in the healing of scar tissue and toning the skin. Galbanum is a natural aid for the body's circulation, muscles and joints, and the respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems, having been used for poor circulation, rheumatism, asthma, bronchitis, indigestion, stomach cramps, nervous tension and stress-related compliants. Galbanum was used by ancient civilizations as an incense. Egypt used it in cosmetics. Inhabitants of the East used Galbanum for treating wounds, skin disorders, and respiratory, digestive, and nervous compliants. This oil is produced by water or steam distillation from the oleoresin or gum. Two distinct types of Galbanum are Levant, which is soft or liquid, and Persian, which is hard or solid. The essential oil is made from Levant Galbanum. VIOLET
Announcing that Spring is on its way, discreet violet grows on neutral or chalky ground, in woods, hedges and scrubs.
It is cultivated in Europe, Western Asia all the way to India, and in northern Africa.
This plant, 10 to 30 cm high, is perennial, herbaceous, polymorphous and stemless. Its stump is thick and emits oblong stolons. Its petiolate leaves are heart-shaped. Violet blossoms from February to May. The big and very odorous flowers are generally dark purple with five petals of different sizes, the bottom one being spike-shaped. The fruit is a capsule, opened by three star-shaped valves. Either the green parts or separately the leaves, roots and flowers are harvested. They will have to dry in thin layers. CEDAR Cedar wood from Atlas is a tree native to Morocco and Algeria mountainous areas, more particularly to the Rif range. It grows between 1200 and 2000 metres of altitude.
Cedar wood is tall tree (30 to 40 metres high) which bears spreading branches into a large top that turns tabular with age. The blue-green leaves are 2.5 to 3 cm long, needle-shaped, tough, scattered on the long shoots and clustered in rosettes on the branches.
Generally monoecious, the flowers appear in Autumn. Male catkins are made of peltatescales whereas female catkins, cone-shaped, bear usually quite numerous carpellary scales. 5 to 8 cm long and 4 cm wide, cedar fruit is an erect cone composed of tightly overlapping scales.
